POEMS

Notes to Self

I like to sing like a bird likes to tweet.

Give me a beat, and I’ll dance down the street.

Melody, harmony, chorus, or band,

Whatever’s at hand, improve or planned.

When I haven’t a song in my throat or my head

I have a song in my heart instead.

Notes to Self

If Not In My Heart

Oceans primeval course through my veins

Breath of the wind maintains my soul

Fire of the sun my life sustains

Ores of the Earth make me whole

How can it be we are one and the same

Waves on the surface, silence within

Where can we go and not be a name

While DNA proves that we are all kin

We write, we talk, we chat, we speak

How is it possible to share a word

When what we see is so unique

Can we ever really be heard?

Limbs have a joint

Motion has force

Lines have a point

Do we have a source?

What distinguishes strength and power

Is a drop of the sea less than the ocean

How can one separate fragrance and flower

Can a thought be held with no emotion

Youngsters and elders and all in between

Around the wheel of life careen

How is it possible we all relate

Is it just a quirk of fate

Where is the forest if not for the tree

Where is the space that keeps us apart

Where is the hive if not for the bee

Where is Creation if not in my heart

If Not In My Heart

A Place Where We Belong

Out where the wind is calm and still

And into the space where my breath is nil

There’s a place of belonging

Where we’re all connected,

there’s no more longing

just love overflowing,

no wish to fulfill.

Deep in the ocean without ripple or rill

And here in my heart so quiet, tranquil

There’s a time of beginning,

Of birth, creation,

No prior causation

Only dawn of awakening

Creativity’s thrill.

In the silence of moonlight high on a hill

And in my consciousness growing until

There’s a place of all knowing,

Where truth is abiding

There is no more hiding,

Only Being becoming

All that is, is now, and all ever will.

A Place Where We Belong

Love Is Stirring

Love’s a throbbing pulsing

A warm upwelling, a mellow melting

Love’s a swelling of heartfelt emotion

An appreciative sentiment of grateful devotion

Love’s harmonious family kinship

A spark of friendship, the flame of courtship

Love’s a caring, kindness, concern

Giving someone else their turn

Love is quiet chemical connection

The tingling of honest and true affection

Love’s the sharing of rippling laughter

Or joyous, immutable heavenly rapture

Love Is Stirring

Morning Benediction

Thank you God for this day

For golden sun who lights our way

For strength and health, work and play

For wisdom, beauty, introspection

For all who guide and give direction

For Earth and sky, wind, and waters

Fire within, sons and daughters

With love we rise, at peace we rest

And by your grace we do our best

With all our thanks, it is so.

So we grow. This we know.

Morning Benediction

Dream

Dream a dream
Consciousness wide.
Fill it with joy
beauty and pride.
Make it be big
from deep inside,
Rippling with power,
potentials untried.
Set your intention,
let nature provide,
Let it go gracefully
all doubts aside.
Wait with a patience
only God can provide.
Watch it unfold
with love as your guide.

Angels Dance

Angels dance in early spring.

On barren land they flit and sing

awakening each sleeping sprout

to greet the sun and stand up stout.

Angel tears send summer shower

to comfort leaf and bud and flower

through warming wind and drier days

with leaves unfurled and blooms ablaze.

Angel praise unfurls in fall

to bless the harvests big and small

and prod the flowers to spread their seed

to winter rest and those in need.

Angels watch in winter keep

in silence still, profound, and deep.

They hold in prayer each mighty tree,

tender stalk, and you and me.

Angels Dance

Snow

Wafers of light filtering down

blanket the land, gracing the town.

Floating to earth, adorning trees,

Falling gently, blown on the breeze,

Drifting softly, silent and mum,

they whiten earth ‘till spring has come.

Stay Tuned

To life there is a harmony,

a blended synchronicity

reciprocating endlessly,

a colorful diversity,

and underlying unity.

To be in sync spontaneously

and hum along continually

in tune and strong effortlessly

all day long perpetually

can make my life be heavenly.

To wake refreshed with energy

and act in faith authentically

speaking with sincerity,

and resting in tranquility

is what I aim for daily.

Stay Tuned

Transcending

Beyond all thoughts there’s a shimmering sheen

where knowledge is pure, no words intervene.

Benefic, pacific, unforeseen,

honor the light with a primordial paean.

In bliss everlasting and body serene

rest there in peace with consciousness clean.

Brain waves coherent, awareness pristine,

know all that is, will be, and has been.

Beyond the mire of Maya’s screen,

find Heaven and Earth and all in between.

Transcending

From Dust I Spring

Sparks in golden glow

bedazzle my half-closed eyes.

I praise the sunrise!

From Dust I Spring

Foreigner

I opened the door.

It was just the street traffic.

I felt so alone.

Foreigner

Tending to Time

In youth, grow food crops.

Build the body. When elder,

flowers salve the soul.

Tending to Time

De-scission

To consciously be

or merely to seem to be —

that is the question.

De-scission

Wound Healing

Life’s a theater

of operation. Within

we’ve the Great Surgeon.

Wound Healing

First Spring Rain

First rainfall this spring

drops and runs in rivulets

like my streams of thoughts.

First Spring Rain

Water Cycle

Oceans vaporize.

Condensed droplets crystallize.

Snowflakes glide to earth.

Buried Treasure

We found what we sought

beyond space/time, body/mind, thought,

senses, pride and ought.

Buried Treasure

Twilight

Twilight comes softly,

gentle on the clock. Shadows fall.

Darkness settles in.

Hopes and Schemes

When life is a maelstrom, may we rest at the center.

When life is a cyclone, may we be at the eye.

When life is a riddle, may we find a mentor.

When life gets us down, may we learn to fly.

Hopes and Schemes

So Be It

May all in happiness dwell.

May all who are ill be well.

May all who are bound find release.

May all who are stressed find peace.

So Be It

The Great Leap

Now that we are on the mend,

joys we share and fears we fend.

Tears we shed and prayers we send

as we gauge each passing trend.

Peace and love together blend

as home to Unity we all wend.

The Great Leap

That’s America To Me

Springtime green, autumn beauty

Winter snow, and summer sea,

Maple, oak, hickory

Rose, gardenia, lily

Field, forest, ecology

Plants, critters, biology

Farm, church, and factory

Mall, university

Boston, Amherst, Raleigh

Fairfield, Lake Shandelee

Chicago, Bethany

Baltimore, Boone, D.C.

Maine, Vermont, Missouri

New York and Hawaiʻi

Hopi and Cherokee

Navajo and Apache

Land of hope to someday see

Freedom, peace, and unity

Amity, prosperity

Justice and equality

Fraternity, fidelity

Variety and harmony

Home of opportunity

That’s America to me

That’s America To Me

Baystate West At Its Best

Baystate West is at its best

When eagles come back to nest.

When salmon spawn and shad return,

And forests fill with leaves and fern.

When summer sun warms lake and land,

And kids build castles in the sand.

When autumn trees in every hue

Create a splendid, stunning view.

When winter scenes of Currier and Ives

Make memories lasting all our lives.

When are we at our best?

In all four seasons we are blessed.

Baystate West At Its Best

My Mental Snorkel

As sun and wind above the sea

Burn and blow I want to be

In the ocean to look and see

Into the water below me.

I don my mask before I swim

And hitch my snorkel to its rim.

As such I turn from sky with glee

For I can breathe effortlessly.

Just so when senses grip my mind

With all the power of their kind

I turn within with thought refined

To think my mantra as I’m inclined.

I’m led to a field of endless bliss

By a kind of mental kinesis.

I open my eyes to go from this

To an inner/outer symbiosis.

My Mental Snorkel

Seeds of the Heart

Deep down inside are seeds of the heart.

To nourish them properly, here's how you start.

Turn within. Resonate.

Dive inside. Meditate.

Guidance is present beyond thought and will.

Listen patiently. Learn to be still.

Discern what is best with an ear and a glance.

You will be blessed. Give it a chance.

Seeds of the Heart

Let There Be Beauty

Creator of all, Your wisdom transcends.
Mother Divine's love never ends.
You bring us joy, courage, peace.
You heal our ills and bring release.
Your presence and power reside within
Surrounding, protecting through thick and thin.
Each day in our lives may we not be remiss

To bask in your beauty, balance, and bliss.

To live in your grace and walk in your way
Is what we ask and what we pray

Let There Be Beauty

A New Year's Involution

May green boughs waft their scent aloft

and crystal snow fall pure and soft.

May the moon cool inner and outer space

and silence bless the human race.

May the flight of the eagle and song of the dove

remind us that we are one in love.

May thoughts be light and heaven be near

as together we welcome a grand new year.

OTHER POEMS

For the beauty of the Earth

For the grandeur of the sky

For the wonder of our birth

For all that sprout, swim, walk, and fly—

Gratitude, Gratitude, Love

Lots of change, yet still we’re friends.

Always change. It never ends.

But in the “always’ and the “never,”

Perhaps something lasts forever.

As buds open, petals unfurl,

each calyx uncoils, corollas uncurl.

Beautiful blossoms stretch to the sun.

Bees sip nectar. New life's begun.

Fruit ripens. Seeds disperse

in annual cycles yearly rehearsed.
